@coolroy4300 Because the whole world has its eyes open.
1
@toddbrackett4277 Because he’s a Russian bot.
1
Turkey and Hungary are aiming to leave NATO in order to join a new Turkic union. Good. They don’t belong in NATO.
1
Germany has been using the US to protect it since 1945.
1
@starwarsgames5467 To be fair, not a single M60 tank was lost to enemy fire either, but mostly because the Iraqis didn’t fight.
1
Poland was due to retire these MiG-29s either way. Better to give them to Ukraine than scrap them. There are two Ukrainian air force pilots training on the F-15 and F-16 in the US right now to see just how much training would be needed to transition.
1
The M1A2 were offered to be sent a long time from now, to a future Ukraine, where they may actually do quite well since Poland will be operating them too. It’s right now that the Abrams aren’t useful for Ukraine.
1
@neodym5809 It depends on what versions you’re comparing, but on average the Leo2 is a little lighter. The Leopard 2A6 being sent is 62.5 tons. The Abrams M1A2 SEP V2 being sent is 64.6 tons.
1
Why “some politicians”? A recent DW poll said 41% of Germans are happy with the amount of help Germany is providing to Ukraine. Only 23% wants more.
1
The US committed to send M1s in the future (months to years down the line) as a post-war military aid package.
1
@miklefelps No, he’s not from anywhere and he’s lying. Modern military forces get fantastic reports on what’s happening where.
1
@miklefelps I don’t know. It depends on what you mean by “victory.”
1
Moldova needs to give up Transnistria and unite with Romania.
1
@jamesgornall5731 What about them?
1
Reuters is reporting that “one company of Leopard 2A6” tanks will be sent. A company is typically 14 tanks.
1
@brokendrifter4626 Actually, Article 5 doesn’t require any member to do anything particular.
1
@zollen123 Well… they’re in power, so…
1
@niemanickurwa You understand that your “defense” of a political/economic stance is purely ad-hominem slinging of proverbial feces, don’t you?
1
@oxymoron02 The UK was never allowed to set its migration policy under the EU. Where dod you get that from? Are you confusing the EU with the Schengen treaty? The UK had to allow any EU resident to live and work in the UK.
1
@ulfosterberg9116 The US has NOTHING to do with any of this.
1
@ulfosterberg9116 Are you on drugs or something?
1
@trildi The EU isn’t FIFA though. I suspected, for sure, but didn’t know.
1
Not mentioned is that NATO does the same. No one is required to squak transponers in international airspace unless they’re flying IFR and are under air traffic control.
1
@tony18662 You can monitor, but it still isn’t required.
1
Can we just say that Tim Ripley is no military analyst or expert. The guy’s a career journalist and at best a fan of military history. He’s never served a day in his life.
1
WTF are you yapping about? Germany only has 312 Leopard 2 tanks total.
1
Putin declared a cease fire for two days, but really just 36 hours for a holiday that Ukraine no longer observes as the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has changed Christmas day to December 25th (Gregorian Calendar). The old Orthodoxy chooses to use the old Julian calendar instead, so Christmas falls on January 7th on the Gregorian (still December 25th on the Julian).
1
@qwertyuiop1234567180 The Abrams is technically a multi-fuel tank, as is the Leopard II. What that means is that their engines can run on any “fossil fuel”, in a pinch. What it also means is that they can’t do so for prolonged periods of time, do not have the sake power output and require a lot more maintenance opposed to when they’re run on their primary fuel. It’s the same as running a car designed for high octane fuel on low octane fuel. Yes, it will run, but it will develop knocking and eventually start blowing parts.
1
@Walgriff Wow… now say all that with your right arm extended into the air!
1
@AplusStrategy No one is even asking Scholz to send German tanks!
1
@jokari69 No, it’s an old word called “appeasement” and Germany has benefitted from it many times.
1
@Argosh THERE ARE NO REQUESTS! The tanks cannot be given or sold by a legal contract, so there is no official process of requests to do so. It’s not a thing! Countries are asking Germany to have a parliamentary vote to change the contract wording to allow such shipments. That can’t be officially requested by a foreign country as all parliamentary actions have to come from parliament members.
1
@Stan_the_Belgian Same for Ukraine how?
1
Why is DW spreading misinformation by not including known details? The Israeli cabinet openly said that Hamas changed the distance at which the IDF are to withdraw and the US department of state made a statement that they are aware of this and are talking to Hamas to fix it. DW remains an anti-semitic state organization, it seems.
1
@inkognitou6982 Bakhmut doesn’t open anything up. Have you seen the topography? You have NO idea.
1
@arcaea_guy I didn’t derive that number. People FAR more informed than anyone here did.
1
@arcaea_guy It’s not twice! Russians are dying about 5:1 in this war so far and that was true for most of the Bakhmut battle, but in the last 3 months or so it’s been closer to 2:1.
1
@arcaea_guy Lots of it. Go do some research.
1
The M1 tank was designed to be operated with JP8 fuel as primary. While it CAN run on other fuels (Diesel, gasoline, alcohol, etc.), it is not ideal. Doing so will reduce power, increase fuel consumption and require a lot of additional maintenance at closer intervals. This is why the US has said that it would not be that useful to Ukraine.
1
Ukraine has hundreds of its own tanks to start with and there are still T-72s being delivered. Morocco just sent 20 T-72Bs that were upgraded in Czechia.
1
@rockfella1377 The EU doesn’t own any tanks. Those are owned by each country separately. The bulk of Leo 2s belong to Switzerland, Austria, Greece and Spain and none of them are going to send any, for various reasons.
1
@rockfella1377 No, you ABSOLUTELY don’t have that. Look at it country by country, especially at the Eastern and Central European stocks. Europe is FAR short of what it needs. It depends HIGHLY on a total NATO response for defense.
1
They’ll tactically retreat all the way back to Russia.
1
@aleksutsepesh1692 More importantly, most residents who stayed in Kherson know each other and it’s easy to point out those who don’t belong.
1
Talks about Leopard 2’s, shows footage of Abrams. Yeah, that checks out. In reality, Germany only agreed after the US has said they will send M1 tanks to Ukraine.
1
No, it’s absolutely showing it’s a follower, after Poland said they’d send their tanks no matter what Germany says.
1
@hungvo6957 There’s no indication for #1 (you’re making stuff up) and #2 the Leopard 2 is a many decades’ old design that Russians know everything about. Germany has already stated many reasons why they were hesitating.
1
@christopherx7428 And you think Turkey would defend any other NATO member? You’re doing some hardcore drugs if you do. Turkey hasn’t participated in a single NATO military operation and is openly supporting Russia.
1
@kofidan9128 It’s how it is in the EU too. Only things they can all agree on get passed, which are very few.
1
In reality, the new Russian positions on the left side of Dnipro are even worse. That bank of the river lies much lower than the right bank (where the city is), which allows Ukrainians better visibility and greater shooting range. The left bank is also mostly sandy, arid soil, almost a desert. There is little tall vegetation. Nowhere to hide. The supply lines are still destroyed. We’re now hearing reports of Ukrainian units having crossed the river up and downstream of Kherson, including to the Ochakivs’kiy District, a peninsula that sticks out West, in the mouth of Dnipro, and at Antonivka. Early reports are of Russians mostly abandoning villages and massively retreating further SouthEast, down the P57 and E97 motorways.
