Judeo Christian values put on a trajectory of human progress through discipline and faith in a higher power see us through the rough patches in life. Growing secularism naturally cancels the super natural dependancy on unrealistic and unattainable existential goals for attainable reasonable goals in accordance wirh nature. Sometimes the discomfort/anxiety is too much to reconcile. The emotional baggage acquired as a result of failed nature just needs to run its course.
