I also jumped ship and just bought a Frontier. If you do the research, the suspension and frame are essentially unchanged from 20 years ago and why not since they have had no problems (unlike Toyota). The engine and transmission have been out for over 4 years without any reported problems and the engine is an evolution of a smaller displacement. Hydraulic steering and a manual "E" brake make me smile at the simplicity. Nissan is doing what Toyota used to do; be the last to embrace new technology and while that may be because of their financial situation, it sure makes for a reliable truck.

Nissan Frontier......manual "E" brake, hydraulic steering, Dana rear axle, NA V6, same basic suspension and frame for almost 20 years.

One more issue you did not mention is baby boomer retirements. This is not only an issue with automotive manufacturers but with many industries. The baby boomer generation generally stayed with the same company all their working life and as such filled critical positions within the company with experience and skill. They had a "only one right way to do things" attitude and had clout with company management. The peak retirements occurred between 2015 till 2025. My company lost more than 60% of their experienced work force over a 9 year period. The old timers had significant experience, knew what worked and what didn't and were not afraid to push back against management. I saw first hand the significant changes that occurred as these boomers were replaced with less experienced staff. It will take their replacements decades to re-establish that static environment.....that is if they are willing to stay with the same company for more than a few years. The new hires have less design experience and are not willing to confront management on their cost cutting measures. They are willing to try new things, that unfortunately don't work out sometimes.

Toyota has shown that they don't care about the customer by the outrageous MSRPs to letting their dealers screw over the customer. I refuse to financially support a company that acts like that.
