The proposal that this an effort to overturn the 2016 election is just wrong. The electoral vote is not contested, and, much to the satisfaction of the core of the Republican party, the tax cut was passed and is unlikely to be reversed under Trump or Pence. The last three years of accomplishments are not nullified if impeachment proceeds. The irrationality of the proposal undermines the Congressman's arguments. Impeachment is not a trial. The Senate tries Impeachments. House Republicans need to choose a spokesperson better versed in the Constitution and law.

I like to think the Congressman knows the Constitution. "The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole power of Impeachment." "The Senate shall have the sole power to try all Impeachments." Thus Impeachment is a political process, that is, it is a matter of a majority of the House and 2/3 of the Senate. If and when the House presents Articles of Impeachment to the Senate, is there any doubt the Republican controlled Senate will give the President his due? The Democratic House risks severe embarrassment and loss of majority if they do anything less than present clear and truthful Articles of Impeachment to the Senate. Their political goal is to force the Senate vote to be an act of loyalty to the President, rather than to the truth of the Articles of Impeachment, and then let the American people decide in November 2020 if ours is to be a nation of fealty to Donald Trump, or the truth. I think the Congressman doth protest too much. The Democrats see the risks involved with the American electorate and have not been eager to start this inquiry. They have seen the power of Republican rhetoric over the American people, and they dare not trifle with it. They must be accurate and clear.
