  1. It's difficult to find the Russian Orthodox Church clergy as sincerely Christian. Putin would see the church as a useful con and tool for monitoring the population. Religious freedom and the right of the sincere to assemble and call their own clergy through discernment would be perceived as a threat to the state. I believe there are Christians in Russia, but they may be as atomized by FSB monitoring as much of the population. Christianity is international, but the Russian church does not figure large in that community.
