The general is right. The US Congress needs to lay out a long-term plan of aid to Ukraine that demonstrates to the Russians that they are going to be outproduced and outpersisted by the free world in this conflict. The Russians need to see that the West is gearing up for a long period of conflict. This may help to deter China as well.

@huntergatherer7796 Yes, maybe the ordinary American gets bored. Always lots of things to think about. But the American military industrial complex never gets bored under these circumstances. American economy goes up and down. For almost 250 years, it always recovered from a problem. Russia had too much of its money in foreign banks. Now it has problems too. Russians are bored because everything on TV is nice and pleasant. Most of them do not know what is really going on anyway and they stay out of trouble with police if they know nothing. Russian government says everything will be fine.

It's a two-way street. Putin may get cash he can pay salaries with and buy goods from China, but the West gets fuel, some of which gets routed to the Ukrainian Army and the logistical effort needed to supply it. What helps win the war? Fuel for logistics? Or cash for Putin's bank accounts? I doubt Putin's military went into the war short on ammo and equipment and fuel. He certainly went into the war short on common sense. If the Russian people had freedom of speech, would they ask Putin why he was shipping fuel to the Western war effort?

Senator Blackburn, Ma'am, once you put oil into the market and sell it, you lose control of where it goes. Putting it into the market got the US Treasury the best price. Part of the mission of the SPR is to buy low and sell high. The government buys when the price is low to prop up producers. The government sells when the price is high to help consumers. If you want to contract only to a particular set of buyers, they can ask for a discount, and good luck trying to prevent some them from just setting up an arbitrage to benefit themselves with it.

It is false that we cannot run and free and fair election. It does take care and effort, but it is not rocket science. Nothing wrong with a political party having its own press. Don't the Cubans understand that US companies buy all kinds of things from Communist China to sell to Americans? The Cubans just need to come up with the cash and the Chinese can sell them practically anything they need. If anything, the embargo hurts American exporters more than Cuban importers.

Repeated tax cuts for the wealthy have not trickled down, they have gone to the Cayman Islands. Yet here these guys are, still griping about people who want to take care of their kids so they can grow up to serve in the military and protect the wealthy. Nothing in the proposed legislation nationalizes anything of consequence. Child care and maintaining a habitable planet has become socialism. These guys talk as if resources are infinite. The ecosphere is finite.

As if the oil industry is not smart enough to work around not getting the Keystone Pipeline. And now that large amounts of money are coming in, they can all the more easily proceed with their alternatives. I remember in the 1973 embargo sometimes you could not get gasoline at any price. Now we have the strategic petroleum reserve moderating the market. Climate change is real. The oceans are rising. We can't just cope with all of that at the last minute. We have to make progress on reducing the burning of petroleum and keep it for the hundreds of other ways we use it.

The US at the time did not yet have a serious fleet of ballistic missile submarines. Russia has such a fleet. That helps deter a first strike. If Russia put ballistic missiles in Cuba today, then the US would respond in multiple ways: 1) Deployment of THADD and Patriot and ship borne SM-6 to defend; 2) threat to deploy closer to Russia; 3) economic sanctions 4) applying pressure on Russian in other theaters. In essence, the US would put a number of cards on the table for a settlement. Russia might be fine with the heightened tensions. OK.

President Trump's Ukraine policy was a mixed bag. To his credit, he continued the training programs of the California National Guard in Ukraine and provided a measure of arms during his term. He did not assist Ukraine in developing the kind of air and missile power that could have wrecked the Russian invasion in its first days. Air power takes years to develop and is very expensive, and that kind of expenditure would not be consistent with an America first policy. But systems like the ATACMS in good numbers with trained crews could have largely survived a first strike and heavily attritted the Russian invasion in its first hours and even across the Russian border to hit supporting military targets. To his credit, Trump did not get in the way of Turkey selling effective drones to Ukraine, but on the other hand his arms program did not finance the kind of drone numbers Ukraine needed. Is he right about his personality preventing the invasion? Perhaps.

Umm. The American people were not presented with two fit candidates for the Presidency. Talk to our powers-that-be about that. The American people got out and voted in unprecedented numbers. They picked this guy, old as he is. You have to be 35 years old to be President. I don't think it's wise to vote in anyone as President who is not at least 50 years old. I don't think it's wise to vote in anyone as President who more than 70 years old. It's an intense job. Most are retired by that age. The Constitution sets up this problem with the President, Senators, House Members, and SCOTUS judges. We need age caps in the Constitution.

Ukraine has indicated it is ready to make a deal. It is Russia that has decided to try to improve its negotiating position by continuing the war. And Russia wants a great deal out of this war. I fear the only thing that stops it is massive aid to Ukrainian forces so they can reduce the Russian army to ineffectiveness and vulnerability to further reduction. That is not yet where this war is. If we allow the Ukrainian army to be reduced too much, they will have no choice but to retreat to a position they can sustainably defend, a small "West Ukraine" tucked against a few NATO member states. The loss of Odessa would be tragic.

Every time a bi-partisan effort has gotten around to getting budgets on a downward deficit trend, and once even a surplus that reduced the debt, the Republicans get elected and increase the budget deficit by doling out tax cuts. Not this time. While they can, the Dems are going to max out the national credit on their programs and let the Republicans explain to their core constituency why they can't cut taxes the next time they get elected.

The agreement hardly worked for minutes before fighting broke out again. The other side is guilty. Go ahead. Search. You will find the various narratives and blaming rhetoric.

Putin is not Gorbachev. Nor is Joe Biden the sole strategist of US and NATO action with respect to Ukraine. Funny how Fox seems to expect the President to act like a dictator, rather than a team leader and international team member. It is a horrible thing that Ukrainian soldiers and civilians are bearing the brunt of Putin's mental disorder. Unfortunately, the man has influence over 6500 nuclear warheads and the means to deliver them. Putin's brain, like Trump's, cannot deal rationally with loss. You can't tell Putin or Trump they have lost and expect them to accept it and be a good sport. You cannot frame this conflict as win-lose to someone like Putin and expect an early end to the conflict without Ukrainian capitulation of too much. What seems to be happening is Putin's ability, through his military, to achieve his desired ends is being diminished, and thus . . . his ultimate victory is being postponed. He simply cannot accept the idea of defeat. His disordered brain cannot process that. He may be content with an increment of success for the time being, and start preparing for the next victory. He needs to live out his days with felt hope for his legacy, but unable to establish it in the short term, and die before it is achieved by hurting thousands of more people who do not deserve that fate. Of all networks, you would think Fox would understand sociopaths and how one with nuclear weapons must be coped with. What an irresponsible editorial, sir.

So Taiwan should fly some kind of AWACS over their own territory using the oldest radar that still can see the Chinese jets taking off from China. The radar signals show up on the Chinese jets' ECM systems. They know they are seen. Let them burn their fuel and wear out their planes. And when they are starting to land back in China, poke the edge of their own ADZ with one economical plane like an F-5 for half a minute in some least convenient place for them. See if they scramble two interceptors with afterburners, more fuel gone. An F-5 is supersonic. It will outrun them. Oil prices going up. That's hard on China.
