  1. I don't think Johnson didn't run for re-election solely due to the demonstrations. He didn't run because he saw a strong possibility that he would not be nominated by the Democratic Party and because the American voters, the "silent majority" were likely to swing to the Republicans in reaction to the civil rights movement and Johnson's progressive programs. Conservatives saw communist influences at work in the war protests. Today's protests will be seen having Hamas influences at work.
