All the effort of the jury, their nevertheless substantial separation from the outside world, all this work and cost to the taxpayer just thrown out? Perhaps the jury should have a say in their degree of sequester. Perhaps the jury should have representation to ensure their sacrifice is not in vain. Who is supposed to protect the jury from wasted effort. These kinds of cases should have intrinsic elements that make it highly unlikely that the jury's efforts will be voided. We can only hope that the jurors themselves can attest to a high level of self-discipline and integrity.
