  1. The population of Canada is slightly larger than the most populated US State, that is California. Canada and California would together hold a large percentage of seats in the House of Representatives. Canadian representative would turn the house blue. Two Canadian Senators would also tilt the Senate toward blue. Canadians would probably insist that Quebec be a separate State, adding two more blue Senators. I don't think this is an outcome Republicans are looking for.

  6. It was the union jobs in America that had good pay and benefits that were cut and moved overseas. Republicans don't want the unions back. New factories will not be like the old ones. They will be more automated with fewer employees or they will not be profitable. Only people that can do a job better than a machine will have a job, and the machines will keep getting better.

  23. Gingrich and Clinton balanced the budget in the late 1990s. It was possible because the Cold War was over. Then 9/11 happened and the Bush administration decided that the direction Saddam Hussein was heading in was just going to create more problems in the oil market. The credit card was pulled back out and here we are. Trump is generally right to see that war makes it hard to balance a budget. I just disagree with him siding with a thief like Putin.

  24. AI and robots can increasingly replace human workers. If a family wants to have generations of descendants, then they need to get themselves into an ownership position in a society where classical jobs have become automated. The cost of living will gradually reduce the global population. Fertility rates are already below replacement level in many nations, including the United States. It is insightful of you to bring up AI.

  28. To build what? Oligarchs with artificial intelligence and robots do not need educated people. The artificial intelligences will constantly improve robot design faster than human beings can, and the robots will protect the artificial intelligences. Large populations will be less necessary. Life for most young people will be so expensive they will have fewer children. This is already happening.

  30. He needs to thread a very fine needle. If he does not reduce government budget deficits and increase GDP, then debt interest costs will displace the discretionary budget to the point that all the government does is collect taxes to pay interest and principal. He at least needs to set a trend of declining budget deficits.
