Regarding number 1, the Congress set up the Afghan SIV program in 2009, but did not fund it consistently and the executive branch, Obama and Trump, did not execute it consistently, resulting in years of backlog delays for deserving applicants. If that program had steadily evacuated deserving Afghans and their families over the years since 2009, then it is conceivable that tens of thousands of them would have already been out of the country and not showing up at the airport in the last few days. And one can fault the W administration for not having set up the 2009 program even earlier.

@Brownicus Yes, it would not have been politically palatable for the Bush administration to just establish the DHS and make repeats of WTC bombings and 9/11 more difficult. Vengeance was required. Hunting Al-Qaeda was required. Unfortunately, by the time Bin Laden was killed, the US and allies were too invested in nation building in Afghanistan. Vengeance had been obtained. Obama had a chance to exit but did not.

@porksterbob If teaching Sharia to kids was their priority, they would have joined the Taliban or refused to work with infidel forces.
