  1. Sounds like grooming the Russian population into signing up for the Russian army. On paper and geographically, China is more of an existential threat to Russia than the West and US. But China seems more interested in getting all the economic bargains it can out of this war. And it also helps to be able to observe Western arms performance in Ukraine to adjust its own military strategies. Russia also has to like the tethered nature of western aid to Ukraine. They play the "verge of spasm" card on the escalatory ladder. For their invasion of Ukraine and all the killing that has involved, Russia very much deserves to be weakened in every way. They can start the healing, by realizing they already have the resources that can enrich them for centuries, and by withdrawing from Ukraine. They are usually so optimistic about their capability. They should be more optimistic about their future. They remain unpersuasive.
