  2. It's about the Ukrainian oil and gas deposits. See YouTube video "Russia's Catastrophic Oil and Gas Problem." As far as destroying the Ukrainian army, I think the Russian army is having its own issues of survival and use of proxy forces. The goal of destroying the Ukrainian army involves establishing clear air superiority, ISR, and the systematic use of combined arms to destroy that army. Russia has clearly demonstrated it was not prepared to carry that out. The West had prepared Ukraine for insurgency. The Ukrainian Army has shown it was prepared for something more forceful than that. There seems to be a consistent under estimation of Ukrainian agency in all of this.
