If your education and family did not equip you to identify hyperbole, the biased use of adjectives and adverbs, the absence of conscience in some people, and the fundamental tools with which to evaluate the integrity of anyone you are dealing with, then you need to go get those tools. Private media corporations will always be about the money. That is not going to change. Even NPR and PBS, still perhaps the most "journalistic" of major media outlets, are influenced by private money. The United States is held together by the credit worthiness of the Federal government which borrows absurd amounts of money each year to prop up the economy, and the deep desire of corporations to have open borders between the States for the smooth exercise of their commerce. Throw in the English language and you have the basic components of unity: the necessity of commerce for survival and the ability to communicate in trade. We have seen a rather tentative respect for the Constitution. I never expect private media to reform. I take everything they say as biased, and I don't need them to be otherwise. I dig for facts elsewhere.

  4. What is an acceptable level of federal government annual borrowing? I would say it is the amount it spends in a year on new long-term assets. Amortizing those assets makes sense in that the benefits are realized over time and thus should be paid for over time. No borrowing should be done for the cost of annual government operations. The DOGE has to find annual savings in the amount of the difference between future budget deficits and the acceptable level of government annual borrowing. Unlike an individual, the government does not need to balance its budget every year, although doing so some of the time can maintain the government's credit and reduce annual interest costs going forward.

Many of these men will work for green carded subcontractors who work for citizen contractors who just pay a flat fee for services without worrying about I-9 Forms or FICA and Medicare tax payments. His functions on the board of Burisma were related to the legal aspects of corporate governance, not the technical aspects of fossil energy. He agrees name recognition contributed to his selection to the board, but he did bring relevant skills to the tasks he was given. Go out and get information on Hunter Biden on your own. This presentation leaves a lot out, and therefore is very slanted in the impression it is trying to make on you. Learn and think for yourself.

Next topic, I am ethnocentric, and so are you. It's a finding of anthropology applying to all peoples. We're all more comfortable with the way we were brought up. Some of us are better at adjusting to other cultures than others. It often has to do with how financially and otherwise secure we are. But sometimes you might call multi-cultural tolerance a spiritual gift, a result of an inner transformation of the mind. God shows no partiality. But that's not where everyone is at. This piece just kind of glosses over the Antebellum South, the Civil War, the Klan, Woodrow Wilson, the segregated military and professional sports until the late forties, redlined zoning, and the list goes on but not in this lady's book. Some people do not want to adjust to other cultures. They want others to adjust to them. And I am saying that is an innate characteristic of human beings, a finding of anthropology, and that it takes a deliberate effort to adjust to a multi-cultural environment for the long run. It's easy to have a honeymoon with a new culture. Then you see things about it you don't like. Then you choose to adjust to it or not. Then you choose to accept it to some degree or not. Totalitarianism is when elections are considered pointless and abandoned. I don't think that is the way the American left is going. I think that is where the American right is going, but is defensively projecting their own sentiment onto the left. When AOC loses, will she say she really won, whatever the election officials say?

The border is a racket. I talk with immigrants. They take the menial jobs but it's better money that back home, where the business community has an even harsher desire for cheap labor. Money will get wired home. The banks will skim those international transactions. And look at the wall that Americans chanted for, and the joke that it is in reality. Another juicy government contract. I propose building more American consulates in the sending nations, around which will form sanctuary cities. They become investment zones for US companies somewhere other than China. Pay needs to be good enough that folks stay in their own country. Not that that is going to raise pay for American citizens, but they might stop being so scared.

The Cato institute is largely privately funded by corporations and people of considerable means. What's relevant to me as a Floridian is sea level rise, and my understanding is the current rate of sea level rise is 1/8" per year, which is a higher rate than in the past, and that the rate is forecasted to increase in the future, accelerating the effects of sea level rise on coastal communities. Sea level is not threatening when the sea is relatively calm, but the sea is not always calm. As sea level rises, storm surges will penetrate further inland. If we have difficultly believing science, we might finally respond to property insurance premiums. Advise your young as well as you can. They will face this.

The border is a racket. Discussing this matter myself with immigrants, the issue is in America there are menial jobs usually available that pay better wages than back home. Some just pay cash with no FICA or Medicare tax taken out, which both employer and employee prefer. These are men that are going to send money home because our modern banking system, which skims international transactions, has made that easy to do. Like I say, the border is a racket, and the problem is not meant to be solved, but to win the votes of the fearful.

There are three basic types of people: 1) acute conformists, they have already gotten vaccinated; 2) deterrable offenders, they are getting vaccinated to keep their job; and 3) incorrigible offenders, they will never get vaccinated. In the end, if 70% to 80% of the population gets vaccinated, that gets us to herd immunity, that is, a case load the health care system can treat sustainably. Like the flu, people will die of COVID every year from now on, mostly the elderly. That will put upward pressure on health care costs. The government, like law enforcement officers, understands people in this basic framework. They are not surprised.
