  1. Sir, the American military would have difficulty achieving its recruitment goals if it did not allow women to serve. That is part of why Mattis was hesitant to exclude transgender members of the military. What you would seem to prefer is an optimized military of drafted male athletes with high aptitude. That could be a better force if those chosen can bring themselves to accept the imposition upon their lives. Did you serve, sir? I did. Within the spectrum of those who meet entrance standards lies a wide variety of folks. Some are outstanding, most do their job at a good level and with pride, and some take awhile to kick out or put in jail. It's a very human institution.

Given the substantial investment in pilot training, it makes sense for the military to extend the period of time that female pilots can conduct such missions as flying C-5's, C-17's, E-3's, E-8's, RC-135's, KC-67's, and others.

  3. No, sir. The military relies upon decent parenting and decent physical, mental, social, and spiritual education of the young before they ever qualify to serve in the military. The family is the essential institution upon which an effective military depends.
