Medvedev keeps dosing this narrative out for months. And Western planners now have had months to plan a menu of responses. The Russians have already given up what surprise effect they may have had by using tactical nukes. With targets like Sevastopol and the Kerch bridge, maybe people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

It is good that the UAF is advancing. However, I wonder if any inhabitants of these villages are actually there to be liberated. I do hope that formerly abandoned villages in the rear of Ukrainian held territory are now able to start repairs and re-inhabitation, now that the front line has pushed most Russian artillery out-of-range. I like the idea of some Ukrainians being able to return to the site of their homes and beginning to put things back together. Perhaps there are wounded UAF members who have recovered enough to help with that effort.
