Conceptually the property theft/loss issues could be settled financially and with better security for new Palestinian properties thus created. Religious intolerance and settler ambitions would probably remain. I think this is part of why Israel did not limit themselves to a proportional response to October 7th. They took it as an opportunity to improve their overall security by reducing Hamas and Hezbollah. They have set the stage for a chapter of a lesser threat from those two organizations. But just a chapter. The differing religious visions for that area of the world remain and Hamas and Hezbollah will try to regroup. Israel may look at that and decide to resume the war. The matter of the hostages is keeping a lid on that for now. Hamas may decide to continue to hold hostages. Given the attitudes on both sides, it is more likely that fighting will resume unless President Trump was to move significant forces near the area and present Hamas and Hezbollah with the prospect of being reduced further. The pressure cooker is very much still there, and it is very likely that Israel would again make a disproportionate response. It keeps the aid flowing. If it were not so rooted in religious opinions, one might see it as a racket.
