To repel the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, coalition forces spent weeks striking Iraqi targets in preparation. No need to rush in unless a section of land is easy and advantageous to take. The general area of attack is correct. It is east of the lake yet as far west of Russia proper as it can be. It sets up the cutting of logistics and the siege of Russian forces left in Kherson oblast and Crimea. It puts any Russian retreat from Kherson through the two choke points into Crimea. Russia should be shifting forces to this region, and that may explain the shift in tempo from Bakhmut to Avdiivka. Hopefully the Russians do not actually have a lot of troops to shift to the south. Hopefully they move quickly out of most of Kherson oblast to move east and south, which would relieve artillery pressure on the City of Kherson.
