What if there was an American consulate within 100 miles of every person in Central America? That's the proper place to apply for asylum. These consulates could work with American contractors and developers and local labor to generate commerce and security and health care right where it is needed. This would take pressure off the US border. People come to make a living. They should do that at home. The consulates would be destinations for those to be deported from the United States. I have no idea if NYC hotels housing immigrants are breaking even on this or profiting from it.

@lawandagardner8048 I disagree that it is too late. Central and South Americans are going to keep having babies and some of them are going to grow up and try to migrate to America. We might as well get started on long term solutions because the people are going to keep coming. It's kind of a compliment to the US that people want to come here.

@lawandagardner8048 I think Americans who live and work on the border would prefer that Central and South Americans apply for asylum in a US Consulate in their native land, not at our border. They can fly here safely once they have a work permit and an employer. In my work I have seen agricultural jobs that Americans do not want to do. It's Hispanics and Haitians out there. Americans like to eat, so they should like people that pick their food for them. The immigration system is currently putting American hotel corporations first.
