I always appreciate a legislator who cites multiple scientific studies. This was a well prepared speech that challenges critics to match it with other scientific studies. Rational arguments are refreshing.

Why just Ukraine? The security assistance bill Senator Kennedy voted for involves US border security and immigration, Israel aid, Taiwan aid, and Ukraine aid. Do you feel that Taiwan's resistance to China is futile? Do you feel Israel's resistance to the Islamic empire is futile? Do you feel American prosperity can continue to grow if the Russian and Chinese empires take more control of international trade? "Armies and navies exist to protect commerce" -- American philosopher John Dewey. The world is indeed sad. The world is often an outright street fight. Look how the Houthi's can raise the cost of shipping and stoke inflation. Do we just go turtle and stay out of the bullies' way?

@skratch-do9nd Religion is a bit less violent form of social control. Look at Stalin's godless methods of social control. That empire reverted to controlling its church but allowing certain church practices today. After decades of analysis, the leadership concluded it could be more powerful if it had a religion. We have evolved over millennia with religion, and I take exception to characterizing it with words like "fairies" and "ogres". And no less than Jesus offered "the Kingdom of God is within you", which of course lends itself to the "born in the minds of men" argument. In the face of individualism and anecdotal experiences, I find that argument a bit Newtonian. It works most of the time in the observed material world, but that world continues to present us with mystery, such as anecdotal near-death experiences before that became a con/book industry. I advocate an open and respectful mind, but imposing some constraint on religion when a consensus finds it out of hand is not out of order. The US First Amendment is still a good thing.
