What is the performance metric here? In 2020, the population of the planet was about 7.8 billion people. In 2020, the population of the United States was about 330 million people. So the United States in 2020, had about 4 percent of the planet's population. Various sources place total COVID deaths on the planet at about 7 million. Of that 1.2 million were residents of the United States. So with 4 percent of the world's population. the United States suffered 17 percent of the COVID deaths. If we were just as good at dealing with the pandemic as everybody else on the planet, we should have had only 4 percent of the world's COVID deaths. Was that because we were too strict about masks and social distance and vaccines? I don't think so. I think the results show the American people did not do a very good job of taking care of themselves during the pandemic compared to other nations. But if anybody wanted to, they could have asked Dr. Fauci why American COVID deaths were so disproportionately high.
