  1. The Palestinians and Israeli's, through a sequence of both intended and unintended actions and reactions, stumbled and stepped into this heightened conflict. Both sides saw opportunity in it: Hamas saw a chance to increase its influence in the West Bank and Israel to reduce Hamas and its infrastructure and advance its own settlement of the West Bank. The stumbling was the cancellation of Palestinian Authority elections in the West Bank and Israeli police actions associated with the Al Aqsa mosque. Always remember that members of Congress are representing the interests that support them. They will frame events to favor those interests. This is a deep seated ethnic and fanatically religious conflict which contains a high probability of escalating into a future nuclear confrontation between Israel and its neighbors. It is really a bad idea to play politics with a powder keg like that. Hamas just proved they can get a few dumb ballistic missiles through the Iron Dome. The day they will have access to maneuverable missiles with nuclear warheads is out there in the future. Stoking anger and ethnic hostility is not helpful. These two enemies of each other have proved to the world that they can step and stumble into conflict. We need to be shock absorbers and peacemakers as best we can. Same goes with our own ethnic and cultural divides here in America. Watch out for these politicians. They step and stumble, too.
