  1. Yes, but Russia has the Siloviki, who are experts at recruiting Russian men and ferrying them to the front without much threat to themselves. NATO does not have a comparable institution. NATO is actually quite pressed to expand its armed forces beyond where they are. They seem to be leaning very much on Poland, and now Finland perhaps. The US keeps having to borrow money to fund replacement equipment as the old stuff gets shipped to Ukraine. This is to say there wasn't any serious surplus on hand in almost any NATO country that might have been simply granted to Ukraine. I support Ukraine. This war is going to set back the Russian economy and population, but the Siloviki will revel in their victories.
