  1. Once a 18650 battery cell heats up over 212 or 100c, it can expand and if one of the 2 layers touch it will cause an electrical arc fire and burn spontaneously. This can daisy chain fire through all the cells packed next to each other in the array. Some times it will stop with just that array. The heat damage caused to other 18650 cells in other arrays may arc and ignite minutes , hours, or even weeks or months later. You never know. What causes the first cell to over heat? BMS error. Manufacture error. Damage to the array due to a rock strike or dent to the battery array compressing the 18650's. IT could be a lot of things. But when you have an electrical arc fire, temps can be anywhere from 2000C all the way up to 35000C !!! Electrical Arc temps are used for welding. Electrolyte fires can be 800c or more. You have a combination of fire types with these 18650 fires. Pure poison is the result. Firemen do not know how to deal with it since you have so many types of fires going on all at once. The worst being electrical arc. Putting water on this makes it worse and the poison that gets into their water can not be allowed to get into drains as it is very poisonous.
