Would it matter if those oh so friendly people called you racial slurs behind your back or when you left, relating the story to their friends? Because that's most likely what happened. Southern Hospitality is a myth.

@trylikeafool Oh there's plenty of ignorance to go around. Lots of it comes from people who are so proud to be it. Stereotypes persist for a reason.

The majority of my family is from this area. I'm so glad they moved to civilization, to a place offering a decent life. Had they stayed here, I would've been stuck in an environment that is anti-intellect, anti-diversity and pro-big business no matter how poor it makes them and their neighbors. But they're so "nice" (to your face anyway).

But they vote for "small" government though, and self-sufficiency, right? So it's not on politicians to do anything. This is what they vote for time and again. This is what they keep signing up for. Why like the man said in the video, you can make six figures at 18! Go for it. This is what you get.

@nohaboy100 People have disdain for a Southern accent because they're usually saying ridiculous things like "West by God Virginia yee yee!"

@vamountainman2512 You mean "Keep your head down boy and don't get too uppity?" It's funny how something as simple as going out in public with a partner would be considered "pushing their sexuality onto children" and "screaming" it to every individual they interact with. Let alone any public display of affection like everyone else does. But yeah, as long as they know their place, minimize who they are and stay quiet about themselves it's alright with you. Please. Typical WV cowpie.

@haveanotherpinacolada Pretending that I wasn't talking about the specific people that the OP met, nice one.

@markk2451 Depends on what stereotype you're referencing. Statistics are a demonstrable thing. Any stereotype will have examples where it's true and examples where it's not. Nice try to box me in though.
