  4. If an IT job requires a degree (and most do), certs don't means a thing if there's no degree. This is highly dependent on your job market also. The issue really isn't certs versus degrees, it's unrealistic job requirements (and the loss of anything "entry level") versus reality. Also, if an employer wants a degree in a given area (say networking or IT security) you can't cert and home lab your way through it.

  10.  @johndank2209  What are you talking about? I didn't say "knowledge" I said degree. Yes, employers want them. Certs won't substitute for what an employer wants. Remember that for the most part, potential employers are not looking for reasons to hire you or work with you. They're looking for reasons to knock you out of the running. Not having the requirements of the job listing (like a degree if specified) makes dropping you an easy decision.

If you have a problem with it, it really doesn't matter to me. If you choose to take courses from people who have never been in the industry, that's your problem. Can't relate. If you live in this wonderful la la land where all you and your fellow flunkies need to work in security is an A+, good for you and the hapless stiffs you hire. In my job market, degrees are required. Once again, cope. To be worth your salt in IT, you need more than a boot camp and a cram session. Be upset about it.

It teaches things you cannot and will not learn on a certification test. You're really showing your ignorance by saying that a degree is only high level things. This illustrates that the people who need them the most, clearly don't have one. Degrees teach everything from foundational, low-level knowledge to high-level concepts. If you don't believe that, I have no desire to prove it you. Keep believing that a cert and a handshake is all that's needed. You haven't disproven a thing I've said, only offered angry opinion based on nothing more than your own bias. Meanwhile, in real job markets, degrees are required. Be mad about it.
