  1. Your grandparents didn't contend with confiscatory taxes or exponential inflation. Why are you alright with workers' money being stolen but manage to blame them for it? As far as savings, life happens, that's why. One sickness can wipe you out in multiple ways. The "bad times" seem to happen far more often when you live in poverty. It's not learned helplessness, my simplistic confrere, it's life at the edge. If you're asking trite questions, it's something you apparently know nothing about.
