  3. Luck is the intersection of opportunity and preparedness. All the preparedness in the world won't give you an opportunity. (And no, you don't "make" your own opportunities.) Access to resources is a huge part of the equation. All the positive thinking and achievement porn in the world won't supply for the lack of opportunity or resources. You should certainly work on what you can and prepare as you're able. But there's significantly more to lack of success than saying someone isn't trying hard enough.

  7. What say or stake does an employer have regarding a direct to taxpayer payment? This has nothing to do with being made whole. It's not unemployment compensation or a civil award. The matter of being paid 100% of your salary is between the employer and employee. The employee's federal payment, or lack thereof, is no business of the employer's. As such, reducing wages or salary would be theft.
