  2. Neutrality isn't necessarily the lack of enemies, it's the lack of reliable friends who would reactively come to their aid. A truly neutral state would be self-sufficient with its military, much like Switzerland, Singapore, and up to now Finland.

As an American we often complain we're not given enough time off to take care of ourselves and enjoy our pay, while we often hear of (if not personally encounter) Europeans going on multi-week vacations with generous amounts of "sick days" on top of that. I guess the happy medium lies somewhere in the middle.
