I'd bet it's from what is now Indonesia 🇲🇨 Their djong ships were equally impressive to the Chinese treasure ship (to the point that China didn't allow them too close to their harbors, since even one held enough men to conquer a port city), and they may have reached as far as West Africa and South America 🧭 Early Portuguese sailors relied on Javanese maps and navigators once they rounded Africa 🗺

@janielaurel Has it been positively identified as Chinese and not from a Indonesian djong? Remember that the Javanese invented many of the sailing technologies and methods that China later adopted, their ships may have reached Ancient Greece, and were spotted in the Atlantic by the Portugese, and got as far south as Tasmania. The Chinese feared how a single djong held enough men to conquer a port city that they ordered them to anchor offshore far from the actual harbor during port calls. I wouldn't be surprised if a djong made use of the Pacific currents to get to the West Coast only to not figure out in time the more southerly return path.
