  2. Until the Philippines realized it can't defend its claim in the South China Sea (Kalayaan) without a lot more advanced support. Until the often pro-China Duterte got elected, there was even movement to reintroduce some US military presence~~ somehow skirting its own constitutional ban on foreign military "bases".

  3. Probably something of even greater concern, hence why most don't formally ask the US to leave. Ask the Philippines and Iraq what happened in their territories when we did.
