  2. China has fallen and risen many times before, but always as an autocracy that over time becomes distant from the petitions of its people, and ending up transitioning through mass violence. The way the Party's "新中国" is fundamentally trending, the PRC 党朝 might end up among the shortest lived of Chinese dynasties.

  3. China was never much of a naval power (the Ming-era Zheng He voyages being the main exception), classically sticking to being a land-based empire that was kind of scared of the sea. Hence their surprise when Westernized fleets came in force from their east (not just as isolated traders and pirates), and why the Qing court tried to put as many water features between subsequent foreign concessions and the rest of China.

  4. The police themselves are a major reason protests in the US become violent, as the cops tend to escalate force instead of defusing tensions. This then allows social conservative allies to gaslight the protestors and progressivism in general as unnecessarily violent and criminal, while many more demonstrations that don't devolve are conveniently ignored by the media.

  5. In some aspects they were worse, more corrupt and less competent than their Communist opponents when they lost the Mainland. There was a reason the US wasn't rushing to rescue the KMT when their rule began collapsing down to Taiwan.

  6. ⁠ @lolasdm6959 The Forbidden Palace neighboring Zhongnanhai sure, not so much anywhere else where Mao encouraged destruction of the Four Olds that even included the looting and desecrating known tombs of past Chinese emperors. Hence why there’s arguably more intact Chinese history and culture in Taiwan, where the KMT didn’t institute an obliteration of its past.
