@ComanderSazabi2000 China has a Dàng'àn (档案) system that is functionally a social credit system. It's a dossier of education, employment, political, and criminal records. It's held so secretly that the subject isn't allowed to see the full file even though their school/employer/police can submit whatever they want into it, and done so permanently that they can't petition for corrections.

Right, rent is by far the biggest payment anyone makes short of the down payment on a mortgage. But for some reason consistent payments of such a large recurring expense are never included in the calculation of creditworthiness.

@DominikPlaylists The only way a credit card would take 3% of your net worth is if you 1) Don't zero the balance every pay period like you're supposed to, or 2) Somehow straight away get invited and accept the initiation+annual fees of an AMEX "Black" Centurion card

Vendors can legally refuse cash because there's no existing debt to be paid off prior to the sale -- the item is still the vendor's property until the customer completes the transaction to buy it.

Sounds like a recent option, because I've never heard of that. Then again the last time my name was on a rental contract, the iPhone 4 was just coming out.

The act of understanding that "useless" stuff is also the type of knowledge that develops our minds to critically question if that advertisement or fad actually works out in the longer term.
