Antagonism against the CCP already is a suprisingly common sentiment within the Chinese Mainland. Not the majority now but still considerable and would probably explode like a firestorm if the Party fails to continue buying support from economic prosperity -- which is already beginning to happen, hence their rising military and diplomatic aggression to redirect frustrations towards foreign enemies.

It's be the Sino-Vietnamese War, which happened after America's Vietnam. The PLA pulled out after "opening the road to Hanoi", which probably meant they were incapable of actually neutralizing Vietnamese forces in the inevitable prolonged jungle and urban battles despite how many men the China sent down south (again).

Which is what the PRC is attempting to buy through BRI and other aid programs especially to developing countries, hence their support in the UN. However, money only goes so far -- unlike the West where people's voices are valued, Chinese still have an image as patronizing and distant. If the choice is unavoidable, most countries would look more towards America as soon as Chinese cash stops flowing.
