The US has been "on the brink of collapse" since 1812, yet survives each usually violent crisis often more in tune with its goals of "and more perfect Union" through "liberty and justice for all". This is in contrast to how China's history tends to swing wildly between "harmony" and active revolt against the central authority, a cycle arguably only broken in Taiwan when it democratized.

That's if China's economy keeps growing at the same rate, which is already slowing and likely to stall due to unreversed aging, overleveraged debts, and pervasive chemical pollution. There's a reason why the PRC has gone all "wolf warrior" and its "Dynamic Zero-COVID" measures are expected to persist: their economy is no longer reliable on indefinite growth and the distraction from politics provided from delivering on promises of future wealth.

There's wide discrepancies in China's purported census data and other counts like hukou registrations and school enrollments, totaling millions of Chinese who don't actually exist. The true number is probably closer to 1.2b, making China second to India by headcount.

"Flexible employment" (gig work) isn't exactly opening their own business.

@Zergcerebrates It wouldn't take so long if Maoist ideology hadn't set China so far back with purges of its culture and human resources. The PRC is still trying to catch up to where China could be if the Chinese people weren't so restrained by the Party's tunnel visioned campaigns and gaslighting of project failures.

It's still more rosy than reality. There's a New Zealander named Tony who's an economic policy consultant in Beijing and runs the channel "China Update", and his daily videos are even more grim.

Western countries have more capacity to include and integrate immigrants, unlike ethnostates like China. Foreigners don't remain all that "foreign" in an open society.
