  1. The only reason Taiwan isn't a "sovereign country" was the ego of Chiang Kai-Shek, who as the autocrat of the then one-party ROC believed he still had claim to all of China. By the time Taipei accepted the fact they would never retake the Mainland, the trend of One China was already set by all the new nations as they decolonized.
