  1. The US and most of the world recognize Taiwan as part of "China", but not necessarily as under the sovereignty of the PRC. This is the difference between Beijing's One China Principle, and the One China Policy these other nations justify their standing "unofficial" relations with Taipei.

  2. Taipei is also counting too much on the ROC Armed Forces, which itself has become alarmingly lax on training and too focused on high-tech gadgets. If they were serious about defense, they should take cues from the Middle East about how to politically defeat an occupation through endemic insurgency and use of global media.

  3. ​ @TheMrleeyang The only peaceful unification would be through Taiwanese voting itself back, and Beijing's actions especially with HK has effectively obliterated the attractiveness of that thought for the next two generations.
