  2. There is a shortage of IT workers in general, particularly those not involved in software development but in cybersecurity and uptime operations. It's especially acute in government because corporations keep luring the limited pool away with higher paychecks, which are easier to appreciate compared to less quantifiable benefits and job security that the public sector offers instead.

  4. If you want to get into cybersecurity, get some old rackmount components off of eBay, configure a new lab network, study what each component logs, and see if you can find alternative ways of accessing it.
