  1. Although Americans did the bulk of the bombing and fighting, it seems the South Koreans became the most hated participant. In the ROK's zeal to prove itself as a developed and dependable military ally following its near collapse in the Korean War, Korean soldiers resorted to the one tactic they've known since at least getting colonized by Japan if not earlier: punitive abuse and torture of helpless civilians and prisoners -- even a common phrase among anti-Japanese resistance groups was "If the Japanese come, hide. If the Koreans come, run."
