  1. While Hawai’i may be “subjugated” by the US, at least the US is tolerant to open dissent. The alternative would have been getting conquered by Imperial Japan some years later in their eastward expansion probably under some pretext of “protecting their compatriots” who had migrated there, and they’re infamously not so keen on diversity.
