China's big problem is that too much of its own waters and farmlands are chemically polluted with industrial waste and urban development -- no amount of boiling and filtering will fully clear out the toxins, and it shows how much Chinese prefer imports and rely on abroad just to feed itself. If Mainland cities have this much of an issue getting food to its people during peacetime, imagine how fast the food stocks would collapse when cross-Straits crossfire scares away the civilian shipping traffic.
