  1. Problem is Mainland China will get old and senile before they become rich. Ironically support for reunification in Taiwan is concentrated among the elderly, with pro-separation sentiments rising among the youth. South Korea has the same situation, and seeing the reunification of Germany didn't help the pro-unity argument.

  2. China would starve without trade. If Shanghai was an indicator, the Mainland would implode in riots over unaffordable rationed tainted food if all of China had to feed themselves from their own polluted soils after scaring off civilian ship traffic from the crossfire.
