@JCSY1 Even then Mainland Chinese aren't traveling domestically or nearby nearly as much as tourism providers had hoped. Zero-COVID and the anemic aftermath pretty much depleted consumer confidence, and they're more anxious about their employment security in general now that China itself is getting its easily-hired manufacturing jobs offshored.

For a some industries in China the retirement age is effectively 35. So between getting a practically-required postgraduate degree and age-defined unemployability there's only like 10 years or less to get from entry-level to independent pension within the field they spent their whole youth preparing for, which is impossible for a single person and ludicrous to think about with a family involved. Given such conditions it's no wonder China's birth rate seems to be crashing even harder than its economy.
