  1. We had a base there. It was just too expensive to keep supplied so we consolidated and it's now an empty field, but our agreements with the host nation mean it's still a "base". This mismatch of definition could be more common than the narratives suggest.

  2. He should really, at least make a list with the source that revealed its location. I was deployed to the Middle East before, and can already tell some of those dots don't have a US facility on them but are rather that of the host nation. Or it's a military reservation that between temporary exercises is just an empty field.
