@FeatherFlairArt Education up through high school is already not a business, and this was critical to turning illiterate farmhands into industrial workers. If we're to stay competitive as the economy shifts to culture-conscious and individually-customized services, we seriously have to look at taking profit motives out of higher education too. And healthcare should likewise be paid for by all of us through our taxes and reasonable co-pays. Our labor force suffers in productivity if it's out sick especially with preventable or early-detectable conditions left to fester into ones requiring more expensive and invasive procedures. It should be maddening how an American can fly to another country without local health insurance and pay full rates that are still lower than the equivalent US hospital bill, all because every other developed nation (and even some developing ones) gets economy of scale from national investment in its healthcare system.
