Marketers do this to create targeted ads, and political groups do the same for messaging and steering your mentality in their favor. Having live updates on what you view and where you post really simplifies the process of gaining verified insight on how you think and thus ways to hijack it. Also Chinese phones dominate because they don't have to pay off the R&D that went into a new design, and thus can afford installing the same quality components at a lower price to the consumer especially with Chinese state subsidies and marketing support. It's similar to economic "dumping": using abnormally low prices (enabled by stolen tech and state-level resources) to kill competition and gain market advantage.
