That shrinking circle of friends may be a big reason why there's constant pressure from elders to get hitched and get a family started while still in your 20s -- once out of school, your chances of meeting and developing a relationship with anyone worth your time outside of work and church (which itself is collapsing as a social space among the youth) drops dramatically while the costs of recreating those random encounters explodes (through travels, nights out, dating apps, etc). Meanwhile your existing friends fall out as they move away or settle down.
