Livingstone does have a good record of achievements as London Mayor. He was more astute than any of the others in recent times.

This doesn't explain things at all. British fishermen largely caught fish that Europeans wanted to buy, but there was little demand in Britain for, and a hard Brexit was always going to result in bureaucratic and expensive barriers to selling them to the EU, which would mean they could never get to the EU in a fresh enough condition. The fish the British like to eat is mostly caught by Norwegians around Norway, but Britain didn't manage to get a deal with Norway after Brexit. Nigel should do a bit of research on the fishing industry. In fact he should have done it before Brexit.

Politicians, and especially the Tories, always like it if they can dodge responsibility for anything or shovel the blame off onto someone. Money for nothing is their theme tune.
32
He doesn't have a formal role now. He's no longer a working Royal and doesn't get paid by UK taxpayers. This is just inter-family grief now, except that the media takes a prurient interest.
24
When Farage was a MEP in the EU, he only once ever turned up to attend the Fishing Committee, and his continuing ignorance about the fishing industry comes across in this video.
18
You got Brexit. You just don't like Brexit because it's not the Unicorn you wanted.
17
Why is GB 'News' fixated on this trivia?
12
Sunak attacks the sick though he keeps them sick by maintaining long NHS waiting lists.
12
She's even more horrible though.
11
The only problem with the protocol is that the DUP don't accept if for political reasons, but the protocol is about trade not politics and it's giving NI the best of both worlds, in terms of trade, and boosting its economy, which the British government doesn't like because it shows up the rotten Brexit they have on the mainland. NI voted to stay in the EU and most people there are content with the protocol. Both the DUP and the British government are ignoring the democratic will of the majority of the people of NI as expressed in the election results. The protocol parties, Sinn Fein and the Alliance and SDLP parties outnumber those politicians objecting to the protocol.

How would business in the UK cope with all 4000 EU laws abolished at once? As for Kelvin MacKenzie, it's not all about you, you, you is it? What about what other Brexit voters thought they were signing up for or didn't realise they were signing up for? How would getting rid of the legislation make us 'true leaders in industry' as Rachel Watkyn said Sunak said? No one would want to trade with us if we have different rules to other big trading blocks. It's too costly to make product lines to fit too many individual countries that's why trade prefers the simpler less costly option of trading with bigger trading blocks.

@bb5979 Is it? Where are the Brexit benefits then?
8
From himself. He's the only one who respects him. He would not know who Nicola Sturgeon was. I bet Nigel Farage fed him those lines.
7
Because people who are entitled to vote, voted for her. That's democracy.
7
One time when Harry was drunk and exiting a club, he appeared in a photo looking rather enraged and I noticed how very like his grandfather Prince Philip he looked. He's definitely from Charles's line
6
I think JRM is an actual conservative, heaven help us, but we did get a hard Brexit. It's just that many people who voted for Brexit didn't know what they were going to get because they didn't bother to do any research beforehand and many still don't understand Brexit.
6
The housing problem may be difficult but the government have never made an effort on this. Boris may say he wants to get people on benefits the opportunity to buy houses but that's blather. It's not going to happen unless there are lending institutions willing to lend to those people and I can't imagine that they will. Nigel is always good on negatives but he never proposes any positive solutions.
5
He'd hardly know who Nicola Sturgeon was. I bet Nigel Farage fed him those lines.
5
Zakhawi was also given control of the Treasury (HMRC) at the time when it was investigating his tax affairs. Why don't you talk about the ex party chairman and huge Tory party donor, Michael Ashcroft who runs a company that supplies agency staff to the NHS and who hugely benefits from the NHS vacancy issue. So what incentive does the Tory Party have to fix the vacancy problem in the NHS while they are taking donations from Ashcroft? Sunak can't be a leader as his hands are tied by Tory Party factions including the ERG. But there is also huge ignorance in the leadership of the Tory Party except for personal money making.
5
How does JRM know that EU suppliers in the EU aren't dumping on the UK, veg and other stuff that it can't sell within the EU because it does not meet EU standards?
5
The Guardian is hardly 'hard left' except from the viewpoint of the 'hard right'.
5
Not really. She's a lawyer who can't seem to help breaking the law and breaking rules as if they don't apply to her, and no matter what she believes in she doesn't achieve. She tried to avoid the fine and the penalty though. Are rule abiders a 'woke blob'? Aren't the Tories meant to be the party of law and order?
5
What's the point of voting for people who don't want to do anything for their salaries?
5
@Queen.lizard.1947 In the big picture it's very relevant, when the big picture is controlled by liars and information on the big picture is given by liars.
5
Don't kid yourself. Making up this conspiracy story to defend yourself shows how dishonourable you are.
4
Khan is not as left wing as Ken.
4
@chrisharrison763 That's the easy bit. Talk is cheap. Boris is good at talk - not so good at delivery.
4
@janetmoreton4607 Just do a bit of research. The British don't eat certain fish types in nearly the same quantity as Europeans do. British fishermen catch more of those types than they can sell in Britain.
4
£600 million to evict 300 people whom Rwanda has no obligation to detain in Rwanda and under a deal whereby Rwanda can send an unlimited number of Rwandans to the UK - that's not a good deal for British taxpayers. Labour has already come up with a better idea. Why the Tories keep flogging this dead horse is a mystery. The Lords are trying to save us from this crap but they cannot block legislation ultimately if the Commons are determined to push it through.
4
@mr grumps Just because he seems a 'jolly nice chap' doesn't mean he is.
4
Just declaring anything you don't like to be communism is ignorant.
4
@paul756uk2 Not so. It's leading us more towards fascism than communism. You're getting your extremes muddled up. I don't see anyone in the Tory party anywhere near proposing to share the capital wealth of the country or to take it over on behalf of the country do you? They are more maniacs for privatising everything.
4
@AllanHinde-mb2pr I did. I voted for Khan

Shaun Bailey is the guy who was having a go at Sadiq Khan in the GLA over Khan's proposal to increase stop and search to combat knife crime. Bailey inferred it was a racist policy. Then when he decided to stand for London Mayor, Bailey did a U turn on that as he realised his stance wasn't popular. He's an ambitious opportunist and basically he just tows the line of the government in order to get on, and throws dirt at opponents by smearing with false information.
3
No Nigel. Instead of finding a massive way to up the private sector involvement what about some massive upping of funding for the NHS? I'm not against involving the private sector as a temporary measure to get waiting lists down but not allowing them to cherry pick or takeover on a permanent basis.

I remember Brexiteers being challenged about whether they knew what they were voting for and whether they realised what would happen when we left the EU, particularly if we left under a hard Brexit. They would say 'yes we know what we're voting for'. Remainers said that farming would be hit hard. Who was listening at the time? Were farmers listening? There are currently no checks on imports from the EU. Boris has chosen not to make any checks on them so the EU has an advantage over British farmers. Butchering is not just about slaughtering. It's about cutting and preparing meat in the way that the supermarkets require. Some of the problems experienced by pig farmers are down to supermarket contracts which require them to produce so many pigs, even if they can't get them properly butchered, and one pig farmer says it will take 10 months (presumably until the end of his contract) to stop the process. In the meantime they will have to slaughter and dispose of pigs they can't bring to market.

Could the energy companies not afford to hedge, or were they more concerned with using increased profits to pay increased dividends to shareholders? Many energy companies were just too small though.
3
@mr grumps No he's not normal. He's a wealthy man who works to become wealthier and has a wealthy man's interests at heart. He's just like the Tories in fact.
3
* bear not bare

People are individuals and different. You can only talk about your own experience really, and it seems like you don't understand depression. It's more than unhappiness. It's sometimes something overwhelming that people can't find a way out of on their own. It's not just about exerting willpower.
3
Whereas the UK government is doing its best to undermine UK democracy.
3
A hard Brexit was always going to damage the fishing industry. Fish are only wanted if sold fresh. Most of the fish that British fishermen caught was the kind that Europeans wanted but British people largely did not. A hard Brexit has put too many expensive bureaucratic barriers in the way of selling them to the EU. The fish that the British prefer (cod and other white fish) are normally caught around Norway but Britain failed to get a deal with Norway after Brexit because they would not agree to Norway's conditions. This is a failure of politicians to care about or do research into the fishing industry before Brexit and that includes Farage who still seems to think there's some Brexit gain to be realised, and it also includes fishermen who believed the fairytales being spun.
3
Does that absolve the predator from responsibility?
3
Divide and rule is what the Tories rely on. Setting workers against each other is a common tactic. The government could end this strike any time they wanted to.
3
Speak for yourself.

Sunak wasn't elected by anyone except Tory Party members. Hardly a representative section of the electorate or one with any judgement. They also elected Liz Truss.
2
It was only held to stop the Tory Party from fracturing. Cameron was confident that Remain would win so didn't make a lot of effort to point out the benefits of being in the EU and the downside to being out of it.
2
If you can't read I get why you'd consider other uses
2
@moraymac2922 Tories will destroy your standard of living.
2
@Cailean_MacCoinnich People keep voting for the SNP though don't they? They must think they are doing something right.
