We're not paying for him anymore. It's up to the family isn't it? I don't see the Queen doing that.

That description could fit GB news.

Lots of historical buildings in York. It's been an important city since Viking times as it was their capital in Britain.
1
So you won't mind it in your back yard then?
1
@hayleylongster4698 where do you get your evidence for that? If it was true, the problem would have resolved itself after lockdowns ended but there are even more vacancies in the NHS now..
1
Damp squib not squid. A squib is a firework. A damp squib is one that fails to go off.
1
@amandamitchell8894 O.K That's to be determined but I was responding to someone who was quick enough to blame the parents of the 16 year old without knowing all the circumstances. We should wait and see the outcome when the evidence has been assessed.
1
@billgreen576 I wasn't saying a predator would recognise having responsibility. It would be seen that they were responsible by outsiders.
1
@tiesiai_per_aplinkui It is illegal to 'smack' someone.
1
Is he more annoying than Toby Young though?

Peter Hitchens earns a living as a contrarian. England may well be happy to leave the UK, but the other UK countries would be even happier, the way things are going. However there's much more in common between the 4 nations than there are differences. It would be a pity to give up that unity. It's just that England has tended to dominate and treat the other 3 neglectfully or unfairly.
1
@jacquelineloaring2438 That's the fault of the English because they get what they vote for. The Scots, Welsh and NI don't get extra money for being devolved governments. They just make different choices about what to spend it on. They spend it on their people. The Tories care more about the rich in England than the rest of the population.
1
What people feel is not evidence and could just be prejudice.
1
A bit like people throughout history, Scottish history for example.
1
Sensible financial management is important because the better public finance is managed, the more that can be achieved with it, but sensible financial management is not a theme that's going to set voters hearts on fire.
1
You could end it if you ever had it, but it's lazy and ignorant to refer to things you don't like as 'communism'.
1
No more hypocritical than the Tories who've taken lots of donations from Russian oligarchs. Can we follow your money, Nigel? Where does that lead?
1
@bruh949 Well I've always enjoyed living here. He wasn't in office for decades but he did things to speed up the traffic for commuters and he introduced the Oyster system for buses and tubes which was great. It took a lot of hassle out of commuting and travelling in general and enabled people to save more on travel.
1
@Neria Wolf No one knows the future. They just have opinions.
1
Xavier Behavier You didn't listen to the interview where that is explained.
1
@sharonwashington8150 Your comment is illogical. Bad candidates would find it more difficult to achieve things.
1
@sharonwashington8150 *elected.
1
@sharonwashington8150 That's the beauty of retirement.
1
@sharonwashington8150 They've been avoiding that one for years.
1
That's because it was so 'settled' and simple, they could not get it done, and they never had a proper debate beforehand either.
1
@frankie7529 I didn't mean that kind of debate. I meant proper planning for Brexit and a debate on what it would mean for the UK. There were discussions but they weren't particularly informed and not always honest. They didn't get it done because it took a long time to negotiate because Britain didn't really know what it wanted except what wasn't on offer and they didn't much like the options being offered. Also the Northern Ireland issue was difficult. The reason Parliament held it up was because Theresa May was told it would be easy to defeat Corbyn if she called an election and she could gain seats to make it easier to get a deal through Parliament. In fact she lost seats to Labour and Lib Dems and made it much harder to get a deal through Parliament. Also her own party was divided. Many of them did not like or support her deal. Then Boris replaced her and told the electorate he had an 'oven ready deal'. Now they say they should not have signed it and are trying to get out of it. It's been a mess all along.
1
@frankie7529 Well, I sussed early on that it would be a problem, and if I knew the politicians should have known, but we have had a bunch of chuckleheads in government, and I think the Leave Campaign just said whatever they thought would win the vote for leave.
1
This is essentially what the Tories are about, self protection, self enrichment and never mind everyone else. Also lazy and incompetent because they don't really want to govern, just to sit tight and amass wealth.
1
@Queen.lizard.1947 But no one's in the Olympic league that the Tories are now in.
1
@Queen.lizard.1947 Agreed.
1
@NS-pt9rr O wave the magic wand and do it immediately. That's not how things work in the real world, but this particular method is the worst value imaginable. A £600m deal to evict 300 people (£2m per person) and Rwanda has not obligation to detain them in Rwanda. In return Rwanda can send as many of it's people to the UK as it wants - no limit.
1
@dianecameron137 She represented her constituents and community. As she was the first black woman elected to Parliament she brought a new perspective to Parliament.
1
@chaoscorsair He failed 8 times.

As a historian I would have thought that Neil Oliver should know that turbulent times and suffering for the majority have been the norm throughout history rather than the exception. We have been lucky to escape such troubled times for so long. Personally I prefer having to wear a mask than having had to live through WWI and WW2. We need to get things in proportion and not feel too sorry for ourselves.
1
In appearance and but not in his political views.
1
The thing that most frightens me about Liz Truss is that she seems to enjoy publicly baiting Putin. That's a dangerous game to play with a man who won't tolerate it and whose advisors are urging him to bomb England (London in fact). She doesn't need to shoot her mouth off about him in that way in order to carry out Britain's policy of support for Ukraine. Don't bait the bear.
1
Still focussing on this when the Tory government is planning to turn us into a third world country economically from which only a rich elite benefits - that's the elephant in the room. They do rely on people blaming immigrants for this.
1
Arlene pretends nothing has changed by the election. She's got a cheek to mention 'consent from both sides of the Community' being needed for the NI protocol as the DUP never signed up to the Good Friday Agreement either but that didn't stop them from taking part in the Stormont system it created. In fact the DUP did sign up to the protocol. The DUP lost votes to the Alliance because most people in NI are content to have the protocol as it gives NI the best of both worlds in terms of trade and their economy is now booming. Arlene and the DUP don't like it for political reasons because they think it will make a united Ireland more likely, but they did vote for Brexit and the GFA means there was never going to be a hard border in Ireland, so customs checks elsewhere were inevitable. The British government signed up to the protocol and the DUP supported them at the time. I wish there were some interviewers who remembered these facts and used them to challenge the nonsensical stance of the DUP in interviews.

No.

@sh.4409 There's no evidence that he was illiterate. It's just a theory.
1
Seems like no one is giving legal advice to Harry or if they are, he's not taking it.
