@chrisharrison763 That's the easy bit. Talk is cheap. Boris is good at talk - not so good at delivery.

Shaun Bailey is the guy who was having a go at Sadiq Khan in the GLA over Khan's proposal to increase stop and search to combat knife crime. Bailey inferred it was a racist policy. Then when he decided to stand for London Mayor, Bailey did a U turn on that as he realised his stance wasn't popular. He's an ambitious opportunist and basically he just tows the line of the government in order to get on, and throws dirt at opponents by smearing with false information.

But what would he actually do that would be effective? A lot of what he says is vacuous.

@fidelitysmart9526 Shaun is quite thick and just parrots the government line. He also wasn't above smearing in his opponents with untruths.

@fidelitysmart9526 As I said, Khan increased stop and search (for knives). Shaun Bailey was against that, calling it racist. Then Shaun u turned on that when he stood for Mayor as he realised it would not be a popular view. It was always going to be more difficult to fight knife crime in a period of austerity when the Tories had cut the central grants to local authorities by up to 80% and cut police budgets resulting in a reduction of 20,000 police. As well as that budget cuts resulted in the closure of many projects designed to keep youths off the streets. At the same time youth unemployment increased and many unemployed youths turned to selling drugs as a means of earning a living which brought them into gangs and gang culture.

@fidelitysmart9526 No I mean Shaun Bailey. I actually saw a video on youtube which covered a live session of the GL Assembly with Khan proposing extra stop and search and Bailey essentially inferring that operationally it was racist. I'll try to find it again but it was quite a long time ago. At least a couple of years I'd say. Here's one short clip but it's not the one I'm looking for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X14hnYbd0Tk

@fidelitysmart9526 Here is the record of the London Assembly discussion Jan 18th 2018. I can't find the video at the moment, but in the video you see Bailey questioning Khan. In the record you'll see that Bailey's main concern was that black kids would not be overly targeted in stop and search. https://www.london.gov.uk/questions/2018/0171 Here is a relevant extract: Shaun Bailey AM: Mr Mayor, can you guarantee young black men in London will not be targeted excessively by the police? (Sorry I can't seem to get the full extract into youtube but if you find the above sentence in the text it follows on from there.)

@fidelitysmart9526 Here's the video. See from 29:26 for Bailey's question. Khan says the police will stop and search whoever is suspected of carrying a knife (and since black youngsters are the ones most involved he can't guarantee that searches will not be more on black youths, but he can't say that as Bailey will accuse him of racism. Also it's up to the police at operational level who they check, in line with reasonable suspicion. It's not up to Khan which is another reason why he can't give a guarantee.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0qXLphyI0s
