Covid isn't over but the NHS also has to absorb the consequences all the political failures in health policy. Why refer to the NHS as a bottomless pit for money? The UK spends less on health proportionately than many other countries. Why do you think there are not enough staff? Of course it's a money problem. The pay is not good enough to fill all the vacancies and people have worked under huge pressures. A lot of staff were lost because of Brexit also.

@Sam-qh1sh Waste? Surely it was the better pay that made the difference.

@Sam-qh1sh The NHS has to pay training costs for doctors and nurses which in the case of doctors can be 7 years long. Then the private sector just swoops them up for free. It can also pay staff more because it charges its patients, and in the UK it doesn't do the most expensive work such as A&E. When things go wrong in private sector medicine the patients get shipped back to the NHS to deal with via A&E. Also the private sector is charging the NHS a lot for the work it carries out via NHS contracts. It charges enough to make a profit.

@hayleylongster4698 where do you get your evidence for that? If it was true, the problem would have resolved itself after lockdowns ended but there are even more vacancies in the NHS now..
